Magazine Advert

Magazine advert

This is our final magazine advert that i made on Photoshop CS5, i am quite pleased with the outcome and we base the magazine adverts in one of the flashbacks because it was a contrast to the dark and dim album covers

Codes and conventions of a magazine advert

This is a presentation on Codes and Conventions of Magazine Advertisements, magazine adverts are used as a way of advertising the star or their song. By having an advert we can then advertise further information, such as Tours, Merchandise and Release Dates, also the band themselves to help create Star Image.

Magazine Advertisement Initial Ideas

These are our initial ideas of out Magazine advertisement, taking the codes and conventions into account, we have decided to use a similar image to the album cover artwork, we've decided  not to use the same image but a similar one from  the same photo shoot, the reason is that the magazine advertisement will be a lot larger than the album artwork, a good example of something similar to what we will be creating is if you click on my Magazine Advertisement Codes and Conventions SlideShare link and look at Brandon Flower's album Flower and magazine advertisement.

Textual Analysis of Magazine Advertisement

Source gear - VAULT
This magazine advertisement predominantly uses the image to engage the viewer within a sense of mystery and suspense. This advert shows a slightly opened vault door with mist and fog emerging from within. The eerie and dark imagery brings excitement to the advert and at first glance may even look like a movie advertisement. This has been done to gain more public interest and attention. The blue filter used on the vault contrasts nicely with the lighting, allowing the vault to be noticeable against a purely black background. The graphology of the text is also set out in movie advert style allowing for even more information about the product to be absorbed by the audience. The key audience would initially be someone who is interested in horror movies, but as it is a computer based product It would most appeal to ages 16 to 18 years of age.

COVERGIRL – LIGHT UP YOUR EYES
This advertisement for a makeup product uses many typical codes and conventions of a magazine advertisement. For example the clear and large COVERGIRL text contrasting against the shade of the female models hair works very well. Allot of white is use to give true emphasis to the purity and natural beauty of the model. A female model has been used because makeup products are a female dominated market. Lighting and computer editing has been used to create a glow around the models eye. This suggests that by buying this product your features will become increasingly noticeable. The woman within the image is also typical of an advertisement of this style, as models are thought to be young and with good bone structure, The model also has a short haircut, quite modern and appealing to todays younger generation.. The target audience would predominately be females from ages ranged from 14 upwards.

TRAPSTAR – Clothing
TRAPSTAR’s clothing advertisement displays a man modeling some of their clothing. The male model is seemingly young, typical of models used to attract younger and older people to buy clothing. After all, younger people wish to be older, and older people wish to be younger. The model has a playful look on his face connoting a lack of seriousness. This playful attitude is relaxing and pleasing to the audience as it allows them to feel comfortable. The man also appears to have many tattoos on his arm, displaying a young and creative outlook, appealing to all ages. A white background has bee used to enhance the black T-shirt that is being modeled. This could be found in either a fashion magazine or even a heavy mettle music magazine. I believe this would appeal to younger generations.
