This is our codes and conventions of the 3 type of music videos; which are Performance, Narrative and Surrealist.  We also have a video to go with this script as this was the script for a voice over. This video is created by Martin Ward and voiced over by Martin Ward, Josh van Tonder and myself, Lewis Parkinson.

Below this text is the video that goes with this script

Chosen Music Video

Why have we chosen this song?
Well, the main reason was the groups personal preference in music and the second was, we had already thought of ideas for the music video and we thought that the shots would flow really nice with this tempo of music

Shortlisted Videos

These are our videos that we short-listed to either use as our track for the music video or take inspiration from for our editing, camera shots, movement and mise-en-scene.

Plan B - The Recluse

This is one of my favourite examples of a narrative music video, this video follows the story of Strickland banks (Plan B), this particular song is about Strickland dealing with life inside prison. We really considered this song as our choice to make a video. The inspiration from this video comes from the CUs, ECUs and Tracking shots.
Bloc Party - Helicopter

Sorry for the poor quality.
We liked the editing in this video and believed it went well with the performance video which inspired us to match editing with meaning and tempo of a song. This was also our very first song we considered

Plan B - Prayin'

For a while this was actually the song we was going to use and a lot of our current ideas were carried over from things we planned for this song. We changed our mind quite late into the research stage as we decided the ideas wouldn't match the editing as we felt the editing had to relate to the tempo. Some of the ideas included some religious references and would allow us to use a wide range of editing techniques and camera movement and shots.

Market Research Survey

Why create a survey?
We made a survey because it will allow us to get information about what the audience want to see that we wouldn't find out with out doing the survey and it also makes our job a lot easier. These give us information about who are watching videos of this genre or form.
This can make our job of creating the music video alot easier, and helps us know that we will always appeal to someone, we can also refer back if we are ever stuck for ideas.

Our Survey
We've created our own survey on the website 'SurveyMonkey', which is an online questionnaire website which allows users to freely create and fill in surveys, we also advertised our survey for people to fill out on social networks for example, Facebook and Twitter.

Important things to consider in Initial ideas

These are a few characteristics that you should take into consideration when planning your initial ideas. They include things like characteristics of a costume, movements of the camera and the angles of them and the location in detail

Mood Boards

These are my mood boards that i created and the images that are shown are what i associate with the genres.

- Pop - To me pop resembles young female solo artists or groups which either consist of entirely male or female singers.

- R&B/Hip Hop - To me Hip Hop resembles money, bling and a rough upbringing whereas R&B resembles purely money and bling.

- Indie - To me Indie represents acoustics, converse and in general thinking outside of the box on most things.
