Representations Video

This is our video which contains information about the different types of representations in music videos such as Voyeurism and Exhibitionism

Exhibitionism Script:

Exhibitionism is arguably more powerful than Voyeurism, exhibitionism is where a female artist or actor shows off their body fully aware and willingly, the female is being provocative and is apparently creating a sexualised gaze and this is why exhibitionism is exactly the opposite of Voyeurism.

Exhibitionism is very typical of certain genres the prime example of this is Hip-Hop or Rap music
videos. In Hip-Hop and Rap music videos women are represented as sexual objects for the pleasure of
the viewer. Exhibitionism is mainly found in mainstream performance videos whilst they are
accompanying the artist whilst they are singing.

Much has been written about the representation of women and race within media, for example,
in rap music videos and the recent trend for sexually explicit Jamaican suggestive dance moves
which have influenced many modern performance styles. Many public viewers and audiences
disagree with this as it may be perceived as some sort of pornography – who is exploiting who?
Is the female flesh on display simply a cynical exploitation of the female body to increase
(predominantly) male profit margins, or a life-enhancing assentation of female self-confidence
and sexual independence?

These areas, together with the notion of a ‘queen gaze’ (where the representation of male or female
artist may covertly address a homosexual audience as well as a heterosexual one) This builds an
interesting idea of diversity within audience experiences of music video and the contradictory
messages and values its representations may evoke. This being said the more complex debates and
ideas related to gender representations appear on undergraduate programmes in Film, Cultural
and General Studies and are probably beyond the scope of the A-level classroom.

Chosen Music Video

Why have we chosen this song?
Well, the main reason was the groups personal preference in music and the second was, we had already thought of ideas for the music video and we thought that the shots would flow really nice with this tempo of music
